It's Time For Dodger Baseball! (Day 2)

My hubby said that he always had great memories growing up attending the Dodgers baseball games. Since opening weekend was just a few days before we went, we just had to get tickets. Hubby got us tickets near third base in the field level.

Funny thing before the game: Hubby and I went to Rite-Aid/CVS/Walgreens (can't remember which one) to get a phone charger, since I didn't bring the car charger for my phone. I also use my phone so much that the battery would not last all day, so I just had to have one. I was wearing my UK championship shirt, since I hadn't bought and changed into my Dodgers shirt. The woman checking out in front of me, saw me, and stopped and smiled. She pointed to my shirt and said that she had watched them played. I asked her if it was on tv (I assumed she had watched the games, when they replayed all of the games in the NCAA tournament). She said, "Yes...Good for them." So random.

Clayton Kershaw was the pitcher and pretty much one of the best in baseball. Towards the end of the game... all bases were loaded and Dee Gordon had a hit, which won the game.

Project 366: The Week of My Birthday

We are finally back home after spending a week in California. On Sunday, we got to pick up the pups up and our family was finally whole again.

Some other things happened this week, and I may dedicate a separate post to it this coming week. Also, this week, I am going to continue recapping the trip that we took to California!

April 22, 2012

1. I received another Klout perk... a coupon for a 20 lb. bag of Purina dog food.
2-3. Picked up the pups from the kennel/vet/pet hotel, since we had been on vacation.
4-6. Rose bushes and flowers at our house.
7. Pizza.
8. Worn out pups.
9. Stretching out.

April 23, 2012

1-3. Sleepy Royce.

April 24, 2012

1. I tried Nutella for the first time, and I thought it was just okay. I could take it or leave it. It wasn't life changing or anything. Don't judge.

April 25, 2012

1. How silly.
2. Bentley was so lazy that he wouldn't eat his food in the kitchen. He wanted to eat it, while laying down on the couch.
3. How is that comfortable?

April 26, 2012

1. Apparently, he likes to sit on me.
2. Looks like that is his favorite pose.
3. Reading "Fifty Shades of Grey" to see what the craze and fuss is about.
4-8. Eating at Steak n' Shake.
9. Again, how is that comfortable?

Today (April 26) was my 26th Birthday. Check out my birthday posts:

April 27, 2012
1-7. Acting like brothers.
8. Cake.
9. About 9 or 10 years ago, Lays had chips that we Cheddar and BBQ. I haven't been able to find them for 8 or 9 years. This was one of the first things that I have seen in a long time that were Cheddar and BBQ. So, when I saw these, I had to try them.

26 Things I Learned In 26 Years

1. Never settle for less than you deserve. This goes without an explanation.

2. Take chances and don't be afraid of risks. Back in December, I graduated with master's degree and had been working my current job (which happened to be in the field) for almost 1.5 years. I ended up quitting later that month with NO prospects in mind. It was for personal reasons. It was kind of scary, considering the pay was pretty decent and that by quitting, it would diminish our income by 50%. Talk about scary! Some people may think I am crazy for quitting a salaried position in "this economy," but it was something that I just had to do. I discussed it with my husband and we made the decision together. I sometimes wish that I hadn't quit, since I was accustomed to a "certain way of life," but I know in my heart that I made the right decision and that I will get back there again.

3. People will assume and make judgments about you. It happens to everyone. I absolutely hate that people assume that I want to open my own practice, since I have my master's degree in Counseling. That couldn't be the furthest thing from the truth. I'm fine with doing it now, but ideally in the next 2 years, I want to be able to do photography full-time.

4. Life is short. Case in point: I Almost Died in a Car Wreck. I was able to walk away without injuries, which is miraculous. For that moment in time, my life was spared.

5. There's nothing like a dog and its love for its owner. We adopted MY first dog in July 2011 (a month after we got married), and a second dog in March 2012. Bentley and Royce.

6. Priorities will change. What was important at age 18, 22, etc, may not be as important now.

7. Don't compare yourself to others. It will only lead to unhappiness.

8. There's no set way to live your life. Are you 30 and single? Are you married with no kids? All of that is fine. There isn't a rule that dictates that you must be married or have kids by a certain age. I know there are people out there that feel that these things must be accomplished by a certain age, but in reality, there isn't. These things are prevalent in Southern culture, because people seem to think, you should be married at like age 20. Everyone is different. Everyone has different priorities. You are you.

9. Thats it is better to start working in high school. What is better than having an income, responsibility, and experience in the workforce. I started working when was 16 years old. When I was in college and getting ready to graduate at age 22, there was people who NEVER had a job. That was and still is crazy to me. To each their own.

10. Having a credit card at a young age (I won't say the actual age. It's not what you think) helped me build my credit, as well as teach responsibility by making payments and paying them off. Even though I have still have credit card debt and haven't used one in a year, my credit score is pretty great (high) too. I would recommend only in emergencies, and only if you can pay them off 100% within the month.

11. You find out who your true friends are, which ones are flakes, and who really matters. To me, the friends that I made in college, my early 20s, and graduate school are friends that I will keep for life. That being said, I still have friends from my childhood and high school, but very few.

12.  This one is my own opinion. Married couples: don't have a tv in your bedroom. I've heard that for 10+ years, and it has stuck ever since. I think the bedroom should be for sleep and sex. I had a tv in my bedroom when I lived by myself. Having a tv only in our living room (excluding the guest bedroom) forces us to go to sleep when we are tired, want to sleep, have sex, etc. By having no television, there are no distractions. It would be so easy to lay down, watch tv, and go to bed. Plus, we use that time to pillow talk, cuddle with the dogs, relax, etc. (Here's an article that lists pros and cons, "TV in the Bedroom." Here's an article that lists, "18 Good Reasons to Get the TV Out of the Bedroom."

13.  Travel every chance you get. Growing up, I went to the beach once (and maybe seven states) and that was really it. (Note: I'm only referring to vacations, not just random other trips). I was so jealous of people I knew that traveled or took vacations. Since my hubby and I started dating and until now, we have been to:
-Washington DC (where he lived after Los Angeles)
-Miami, Florida
-Grand Cayman Islands
-Isla Roatan, Honduras
 -Belize
-Cozumel, Mexico
-San Juan, Puerto Rico
-St. Thomas, USVI
-St. John, USVI
-Barbados
St. Lucia, WI
-St. Kitts, WI
-St. Maarten, NA
-Los Angeles, California (where hubby is originally from)
-Several weekend trips

If it wasn't for him, I prob wouldn't have been anywhere. We try to plan at least one "big" trip every year. It is always good to get away and relax.

14. It's okay to splurge. It could be purchasing a handbag, eating that delicious burger, taking a spontaneous trip, etc. You deserve to treat yourself, and you only live once.

15. Live with no regrets. I know it may sound cliche but I look at it this way, at that particular moment in time, I chose to do whatever, because that's what I wanted. It may have not been the "right" decision each time, but I felt at the time, it was right, so I went with it.

16. Listen to your gut and intuition. There's a reason it is there. If you have a bad feeling about something or someone, trust your instincts, you are probably right.

17. Brush off the haters. They are just jealous, and there are always going to be people envious of you and putting you down for your successes. Remember, it isn't a problem with you, but with them.

18. Stand up for yourself. Don't be afraid of confrontation. If you are being treated unfairly (at work, school, personal life, etc), speak up and say something.

19. Don't be afraid to turn down jobs and interviews. Some that are offered are just not a good fit and not worth it.

20. Try to see the positive in everything. This is sometimes a struggle, because it is so easy to be negative, and it is impossible to be 110% positive all the time.

21. Do research. I'm always looking up information about anything and everything. Google is your best friend. Be educated. It can be anything from something serious to something lighthearted. It could be gathering information about a certain job, company, etc. Basically, anything. The last thing that I want to be is uneducated and/or sheltered.

22. Blog. I've been blogging for maybe on and off for 10 years? It started off being periodically on xanga and then to myspace. It wasn't until 2009 that I blogged regularly (almost everyday). I used them to document my life, thoughts, trips, pictures, etc. Without blogging, I would not be able to remember the majority of stuff that I included here. Now, I have a forever reminder.

23. You don't need a new car. I've had the same car for TEN years, which was my first car that I got when I was sixteen years ago. The only reason I am getting a new (USED. new to me) is because I was driving hubby's car, when it was totaled. He is letting me pick out the car for me.

24. Moisturize, wear sunscreen, and avoid tanning beds. I've never been to the tanning bed, and never will. (I'm not judging, but to each their own). Tanning beds are linked to cancer. FACT. There is tons of self-tanners and spray tans that look natural and are not damaging to the skin. One of my favorite moisturizers is: Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense Lotion SPF 30. Your natural skin is more beautiful than fake baking. Sorry.

25. Set goals. I have a 101 in 1001 days list and a separate list (currently) for spring 2012. It helps to see progress by marking off a list of accomplishments. It is also a great self-esteem booster to see things accomplished, as well as helping you grow as a person.

26. Everything happens for a reason. Enough said.

Thanks to everyone who wished me "Happy Birthday" yesterday!

It's My Birthday! Happy 26!

Today is my 26th birthday, and it has been the best yet.

I didn't think anything could top my 24th birthday, where we celebrated for five days (four days for my birthday, and the fifth day was a Taylor Swift concert).

I'll tell you that my 26th is the best yet. I already received my birthday gift early, and I have to admit, it was (and still is) pretty freaking awesome! For those who follow me on twitter and instagram, you will know that I recently went to California for a week! That was my birthday gift! Starting on Monday, I will begin sharing pictures and recapping the whole trip.

Be sure to check out what "26 things that I learned in my 26 years" tomorrow.

Now, I am off to celebrate my 26th birthday for reals this time.

HAPPY 26TH BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Orbitz: More Hassle Than What It Is Worth (Day 1)

Peter Engel developed my love from a young age of California. Growing up, I always wanted to visit California, as well as have a California boy of my own. How could you not with shows like Saved By the Bell, Malibu CA, and California Dreams. Imagine my surprise, when I married my very own California boy!

Our first day was obviously flying out to LAX. Our flight was at 3pm and had a connection in Detroit that then went to LAX.

Before we left for the airport, we dropped our pups off at the pet hotel/vet/kennel. I have to admit that I cried. I know some may not understand, but if you have a dog (or other animal that you are close to) then you understand. These pups are like my children. They are family. I felt so bad, because they can't comprehend what is going on. I didn't want them to think we were going away forever. Both of them have severe separation issues. As soon as we dropped them off, they started freaking out. Even as we were in our car and driving away, we heard Royce barking (and he was inside, and we were in our car on the street)!

I know these pictures look familiar, but these are the only ones I took were with my phone (just for this day). They just had to be posted again for my description of day one.

1. Bentley on his way to the pet hotel.
2. Royce on his way to the pet hotel.
3. Royce on top of Bentley.
4. Snuggling together.
5. While I was unpacking, I found this pair of Express flats that I bought about two years ago.
6. Happy about our trip!
7. Waiting at the airport for our flight.
8. Goodbye Kentucky!
9. I think it was funny that we landed two hours after we took off, but we were on the flight for five hours. Oohh...the time change.

1. Screens on the back of the seats.
2. I won this round of in-flight trivia.
3. Top steakhouses in North America.
4. One that I love, ate at, where I live made the lists
5-7. Flying over the United States.
8-9. In-N-Out.

We booked our trip through Orbitz and got a great deal (flight, car, and hotel). However, we will likely NOT be using Orbitz again. Horrible experience. We get to the car rental place after our plane lands. Hubby called Avis and Orbitz to make sure that he would NOT be charged the underage fee (since it was in his name and because he was not 25). If you are a USAA member (which we are) then the underage fee is waived (due to us being an Avis Preferred Member and USAA member). Avis said that it would be okay. WRONG! While at the actual Avis, they were trying to charge us an additional $30 a day (ON TOP OF WHAT WE ALREADY PAID). IF we had paid it (which we didn't), it would have been like an additional $200+. Ummm...no. It was this huge ordeal. Avis couldn't cancel it or change it, since it was booked through Orbitz. We had to call Orbitz, which they proceeded to call Avis. Heeellllo? We are standing in an Avis building. This went on for almost 1.5 hours. They couldn't even put it in my name, since I am over the age of 25. Finally, we were able to cancel the reservation, make a new reservation with our discounted price, and even got upgraded to a mid-size car! Obviously, this isn't Orbitz's fault, since the employees at Avis said that there wouldn't be any problems.

We make it to our hotel, and get this... they don't have our reservations! The trip was booked in February. It was already really late, so the hotel manager (or whoever it was working) put us in a room free of charge. He said that we would work it out in the morning. I'm so glad that he was willing to work with us. We gave him the information that we had about the reservations, and then that morning Orbitz faxed the hotel information about our reservation. We ended up getting an upgraded room than what we booked.

Honestly, I don't think the great deal is worth the amount of trouble we went through. Maybe we just had a person who didn't do their job correctly. I don't know what happened. I'll glad pay x amount more to insure everything isn't messed up. At least our flights were correct!

Hubby took me to In N Out, since it is a must when going to California, and because it is hubby's favorite burger place. Since the disaster with Orbitz, this was all we did that night. Sad face.

Next up: Dodgers Game

Project 366: The Week of Los Angeles

Sorry, I have taken a short hiatus from my blog. I have had intentions of scheduling posts, but life got in the way and I couldn't fit it in. If you follow me on twitter (@imatriplethreat) or instagram (whitneyehfar), you would know that my hubby and I took a trip to Los Angeles. Hubby is originally from there and wanted to show me where he grew up. We also like to take at least one big trip every year, so it worked out perfect.

I haven't logged onto to blogger in almost 9 days, and I just noticed I have 500 followers. WOW! I swear last time that I looked I had 493. So, I would like to say, "HEY! to all my new followers (and also to the long-time ones, as well). My google reader is out of control, so I am going to try to catch up these next couple of days. I feel so out of the loop.

I'm going to recap our trip in some upcoming posts, but for now, I will share pictures that I took with my phone (quite a few are ones that I haven't shared on instagram) to go along with Project 366.

    5. Bugatti Veyron that was outside of the store, House of Bijan. On the car, it had Bijan Pakzad's signature, which was the designer and the owner of the store. I read online that he passed away in April 2011. I also read that his store was considered to be one of the most expensive in the world!

My Fail as a Party Host

About a month ago, I applied to be a host via House Party to have a Nicholas Sparks Potluck House Party. This was specifically for the book, The Lucky One, and to prepare for the movie release on April 20.

I received an email shortly after the deadline and I was chosen. I was one of a 1000 people selected. After that, I waited for my party pack to arrive. This arrived about two or three weeks before the party date. Disclaimer: I did not pay for the supplies sent to me. It was sent free, since I was chosen as a host.

I'm just going to keep it real. What I'm about to say could possibly guarantee my chances to never get chosen as a host again, but I'm just going to be honest. I was super excited at first, but as the party grew near, the excitement faded.

This was a busy time. We were in the process of moving, since I wanted to have it at our new place. I hadn't really made plans for the menu, except have hubby grill out. Well, one of the worst things happened. We technically are still paying rent at our old house. We still have quite a few belongings there. So, we went back on Thursday to pick up our BBQ grill, and it was gone. Someone had stole it! We figured people noticed we were moving, and wanted to see if we left anything behind. They would have had to walk around to the back of our house, since it isn't visible at all. We guess they figured we didn't want it, so they took it.

This is when my complete care for the party went out the window. I mean, it already had, because NO ONE was coming. I take that back... my hubby's mom was coming and one of my friends that I went to graduate school went was coming. Everyone else either a) had to work or class, b) had other reasons that they could not come, or c) never heard from them. I totally respect and understand if people tell me ahead of time, "I can't come because....." I completely understand! There was people that blatantly ignored the invite. I'm not 100% sure, but if you sent out the House Party invite email, facebook message, and facebook invite, it really makes you wonder? There's people I know that would have been there, if they already didn't have other things they had to do.

So, since our BBQ grill got stolen, hubby's dad also came over and brought his. I made my famous Oven Faux Fried Chicken, hubby's dad grilled burgers, we made macaroni and cheese, and had my Cake Batter cookies. The food was delicious!

I didn't take any pictures, because frankly, it would have just been of the food or dogs or whatnot. Going through this experience makes me realize that it is really hard to plan a get together. It really made me not ever want to plan any type of party again. It's sad, but true.

I think House Party is such a cool concept, and I'm sad that it didn't work out the way I wanted. Even though, it was just hubby, hubby's parents, my friend, and me, we had a great time. It doesn't take a lot of people to have a great time.

At least once a month, two of my friends get together and go to the movies (one of the friends was the same one that came to my party). I love doing that. It's also such a great time! For now, I'm going to stick to my small groups of one to three people.

    7. These are amazing and amazingly cheap at $1. I like the Four Cheese (Cheddar, Bleu, Romano, and Parmesan) the best!
    8. Dinner in the new house. The utensils were in boxes at our other house, so we had to use a measuring spoon as a spoon. Haha.
    9. While unpacking, I had completely forgot that hubby bought me seasons 1 and 2 of California Dreams. We may or may have not watched a couple of the episodes.

    1. Tri-colored nails. (Bottom to top: OPI Mermaid Tears, Sephora by OPI Iris I Was Thinner, and Essie Bachelorette Bash).
    2. Our new (to us) sectional at our new house. We already have 2 couches and 2 loveseats (one set is mine and the other is hubby's former roommate's set). My friend is planning on getting a new sectional, so she gave me her old one. We had two twin mattresses, two boxsprings, and two desks that we gave her that we didn't need. I have always wanted a sectional. They are so expensive...thousands of dollars. I'm so blessed to have such great friends. Love her!
